Leave the tattoo in the wrapping provided by the tattoo artist for 1-2 days.
If you have any allergies to adhesive, please inform your tattoo artist not to use the second skin bandaid.
Remove the bandaid in the shower under running warm water. Pull the bandaid from the bottom up. Clean the tattoo with warm water and mild soap.
Do not use bar soap.
Pat dry using a clean, single use paper towel. Apply a thin layer of ointment like Mad Rabbit healing balm or soothing gel, Cetaphil or mild lotion morning and night for 7 days.
Be sure not to oversaturate it. Just a rice grain size amount is enough.
Wash tattoo daily in the shower/sink just like any other part of your body. Repeat with thin layer of ointment or lotion. You don't need a lot of lotion/ ointment, you want the tattoo to be able to "breathe".
After the first 7 days, continue with aftercare ointment or switch to a lighter lotion for an additional 7 days.
Permanent tattoos typically take 2-3 weeks to fully heal.
The tattoo may start to dry up and scab. DO NOT pick or scratch at the tattoo.
No swimming or submerging the tattoo in water until fully healed (about 2-3 weeks). No baths, no pools, no swimming in the ocean.
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight as it may cause irritation or fading. After the tattoo has healed, its recommended to use a high SPF when in the sun.
If you experience any signs of an infection or allergic reaction such as but not limited to redness and swelling, fever, pus drainage, pain, shaking/chills or firm bumps, please contact your physician immediately.
